Overview

The Antminer S23 series represents a next-generation SHA-256 ASIC lineup from Bitmain, designed to offer improved performance and efficiency over earlier models. The 296T variant sits in the mid-to-high range of the S23 family, providing significant mining capacity without requiring advanced cooling solutions.

Under sustained operation, the S23 296T typically draws around ~3,200–3,500 watts of power depending on ambient conditions, airflow, and power supply efficiency. Bitmain introduced the S23 generation in 2025, responding to evolving network difficulty and the ongoing demand for more efficient mining hardware. The S23’s hardware and firmware support ensure stable continuous hashing output with standard setup and monitoring tools familiar to Antminer users.

Standard setup involves a straightforward connection to mining pools via built-in firmware, with compatibility with popular dashboards and third-party monitoring tools commonly used in the Antminer ecosystem.

Manufacturer

Bitmain is a leading global manufacturer of cryptocurrency mining hardware and the creator of the Antminer brand. Since its establishment in 2013, Bitmain has driven innovation in ASIC chip and miner design, especially for the SHA-256 algorithm used by Bitcoin.

Antminer products are widely adopted by both retail miners and larger mining operations due to Bitmain’s strong engineering background, broad firmware support, and expansive ecosystem integration. With each generation — including the S23 series — Bitmain continues to focus on delivering high-performance hardware that balances cutting-edge design with real-world usability.

Efficiency

The Bitmain Antminer S23 296T delivers strong energy performance for its class. Typical energy efficiency for this model is in the ~11–12 joules per terahash (J/TH) range under nominal conditions. This metric reflects the energy required in joules to compute one terahash of SHA-256 hashing work.

Efficiency depends on operational conditions such as ambient temperature, ventilation, and the quality of the power supply unit (PSU). For home miners in the UK and EU where electricity costs are a significant consideration, this efficiency helps keep power usage manageable while maintaining competitive hashing output.

Algorithm

The Antminer S23 296T mines the SHA-256 proof-of-work algorithm, which is the cryptographic hashing function that underlies Bitcoin (BTC) and other SHA-256-based coins. SHA-256 miners contribute computational power to secure the blockchain and compete for block rewards by performing high volumes of hash computations.

Most users deploy this miner targeting major Bitcoin mining pools due to Bitcoin’s deep liquidity, high network hashrate, and consistent reward structure. While the miner could be directed at secondary SHA-256 coins, Bitcoin remains the dominant economic target in this algorithm segment.

Lifespan

ASIC miners such as the Bitmain Antminer S23 296T are engineered for continuous 24/7 operation and can remain productive for 3–5 years with proper care. Key factors influencing lifespan include stable power delivery, regular dust and temperature maintenance, and adequate airflow around the unit.

Launched in 2025, the S23 296T sits within the current generation of high-efficiency SHA-256 mining hardware. While future ASIC releases may push efficiency and performance further, this model remains competitive and reliable for retail home miners throughout its expected lifecycle.
